Books I Want to Read in 2017
Every year, Goodreads (if you haven’t been to this website and you’re a reader you need to check it out. Seriously) holds an annual goal event to encourage people to read more. You input a number of books that you plan on reading for the year, and as you use the site and complete books, it keeps track of how you’re staying on schedule for your goal. I have seen goals ranging everywhere from 1 to 120. My own goal this year is 25, and here are a few of the ones I want to consume.
Underworld by Don Delillo – This book has been my Everest. Don Delillo is one of my favorite authors but this work of his has eluded me due to its immense size.
The Dark Tower Books 4-8 – This is my second read-through of this most excellent Stephen King series. My first was throughout high school and shortly thereafter. I have never read the 8th and final book in the series (The Wind Through the Keyhole) but when it was released in 2012, I knew I wanted to re-read everything before I got to it. This year I’m hoping to finish what I started last year.
The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway – Another of my favorite authors and a book that I’ve always wanted to read.
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez – This is another author that I love and a book that’s been on my To Read list for quite some time.
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett – This was one of my favorite books as a child and I recently bought a really nice leather-bound copy of it that I can’t wait to read so that I can bask in the nostalgia.
These are the books I’m most excited to read this year. The rest of the 25 to make up my goal will consist of whatever happens to capture my attention or whatever is recommended to me at the time.
Do you have any reading goals for 2017?
